Taika Waititi has entered into negotiations to take the helm on the Steven Spielberg adaptation of Percival Everett’s novel, ‘James.’

The bestseller offers a fresh perspective on the classic tale of Huckleberry Finn, presenting the story from the viewpoint of Jim, a man who is enslaved and embarks on a journey down the Mississippi River with the young Finn, a close companion of Tom Sawyer. According to the book’s synopsis, the foundational elements of Mark Twain’s original “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” remain, but the narrative shines a spotlight on Jim’s autonomy, intelligence, and empathy in a groundbreaking manner.
